Paper Rice - Vietnamese Kitchen | Featuring Mekong Specialities

ABBEY: Want some Vietnamese cuisine? Visit Paper Rice. We went at their outlets at Changi City Point and Plaza Singapura. I ordered Grilled Chicken Chop Rice with Egg Meatloaf as well as Pork Bahn Mi. You can really taste the smokiness and char on each bite.

The tanginess and saltiness of the dipping sauce will give a burst of flavour. I also tried hot egg coffee which was delivered by a friendly robot. It is creamy and the caffeine kick is strong.

WILL: We headed for dinner at Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen after Abbey’s meetup with colleagues at Changi City Point.

Once you get seated, you will feel at home. Like a visitor to ones home waiting for one of the parents to greet you. Hehe. That’s the vibes in their restaurant. Why? The furniture reminds me of my grandmother’s house in Malabon City. It is antique and colorful. Home that is clean and full of happiness.

Okay let’s go for the food review. The food serving is huge. As in really huge. You may not feel the authenticity of Vietnamese cuisine here because it seems fusioned with modern era. Haha. Like their Deep Fried Vegetarian Spring Roll. It was not wrapped into an ordinary spring roll wrapper or white paper rice. Then my Pork Noodle Soup didn’t possessed a strong coriander scent. Maybe a plus for some but a quite a downside for me. Because I love coriander hehe.

Will surely be back for their hot egg milk coffee and hot refreshing tea.

SO PHO (So Good) - Vietnamese Restaurant

ABBEY: I got fever, cough and cold for a week. Once feeling slightly better after dosages of tablets, I longed for soup. Anyways, that's what the doctor told me to eat.

I got a bowl of Pho Dac Biet; slices of beef and meatballs in Vietnamese Pho. This costs less than 10sgd. The taste was good and relieves me of my sickness. The lime juice really put the zesty and tangy taste.

A couple of slurps then my bowl was already empty. The branch we went is at Waterway Point Punggol (01-28).

WILL: Abbey's down with a flu for the second time in year 2016. I do not have time to cook for a soup and the best to do is to buy for take out. At So Pho's newest branch which is located at Punggol Waterway, I ordered my usual PHỞ GÀ and PHỞ ĐẶC BIỆT for my sick husband.

Their serving is too huge, their soup is pretty tasty and noodles are perfect. Half of my bowl was passed to Abbey, I am so way full!

This restaurant made to my list!! :) 'Till next time guys! See you again!

Comnam - Vietnamese Street Eats

ABBEY: Before heading to 2015 Singapore Night Festival, we filled up our tummies with food from Comnam Broken Rice bowl in Raffles City. It caters Vietnamese street food.

I got marinated pork cutlet (with chicken ham, pickles, viet steamed egg with pork) for 10.5 sgd. Within minutes, the order was already on our table. It was zesty and tangy due to cilantro and lime and was flavorful. They are also using fish sauce which is used also in Philippines. Sweet, sour, salty, and spicy; all in one bowl.

We also tried their version of sugar cane juice. They put lime on that as well. This is a sister company of NamNam Noodle Bar.

WILL: I am intrigued on the long queue that is building up every time I passed at Raffles City. So when Abbey and I got the chance to have dinner there, we instantly grabbed the chance.

Comnam is serving broken rice. In Philippines this kind of rice is used for chicken feeds and I am not surprised that this store explains that in Vietnam's history it was taken by peasants. But now they discovered that this tiny rice absorbs more sauces and flavours.

I went for Abalone, Pork Ribs, Soft Boiled Egg, Bean Sprouts Rice Soup. ($13.90 GST included / no service charge). The soup is tasty and the rice's texture is incredibly nice. I will love to consume this kind of food when it is raining or when I feel sick. It gives comfort to its consumer.

A recommendable place to dine. :)

Wrap & Roll Singapore

ABBEY: Wilma is craving for Pho noodles then she stumbled upon an online contest where we won a 20sgd voucher in Wrap and Roll. Unfortunately the kind of noodles she wants is not yet part of the menu on their Ion Orchard branch.

I tried their rice noodles with grilled pork/chicken and deep fried spring rolls. It is a dry noodle dish but with savoury and tangy flavour. Their condiments really helps to bring out the taste on each dish. We also got our hands at work on doing grilled pork skewers roll; it was moist, saucy and delicious.

WILL: Don't fool me. Don't you tell me that never, as in never ever, even once that you was enticed on the food posted on your facebook newsfeed.

I craved and I missed the Vietnamese cuisine when I saw Wrap and Roll announcement on their newly opened branch at One@Kentridge. Asked Abbey to have a dinner there. Very, very lucky he won a contest at Where To Eat Singapore which entitled us on a $20.00 voucher. Sheduled!

We went to Wrap and Roll Ion Orchard branch. Sat, ordered and waited. I am so happy that day but when I saw the menu, my heart was crushed. No Pho Ga. The waiter told us that they will add that food in their menu on the next upcoming week. Anyway, why whine if there is so many choices to indulge in.

I ordered for Bún cá (Vietnamese Fish Noodle Soup). Our first time to eat a Bánh ướt cuốn thịt nướng (Grilled Pork in Steamed Rice Paper Rolls). We have fun and tummy-fulfilling date that night. We will be sure coming back for more noodle soup.

Hooray to your staffs! They patiently explains to almost every diners how to eat the appetizers
served. Thanks a lot to Where To Eat Singapore! for the voucher ;)

Baguette – The Viet Inspired Deli

ABBEY: We were looking for a place to eat in Vivo City mall and we found this, Baguette, a Viet-inspired deli. I tried their grilled pork rice-noodle bowl. The taste is a mix of sweet, sour and mild hot. The pork is tender and moist. I also tried their signature drink Soda Chanh (lime juice, soda and syrup). Whole dinner cost only less than 15sgd.

WILL: Its my birthday and we choose to go spend it in our home. Hmmm, I am from office doing a two hour overtime. My gosh, our stomach is grumbling we need some small munchies just to stop the starving. Haha. We sat here at Baguette and ordered some sub vietnamese style.
The taste? Incredible! Definitely a viet-sub! A nice alternative to a usual western-american breads. :)
It costs not more than a $5. You can reach them at VivoCity Mall near Sephora.

The Orange Lantern

ABBEY: I used to be in Harbourfront Centre when my office is near the mall back then, but this is the first time I went on this restaurant. It caters Vietnamese cuisine. I got their rice vermicelli topped with beef and spring roll for 11sgd. The meal tastes good. Make sure to dip the spring roll in their sweet-sour-salty sauce.  Combo sets are also in their menu.

WILL:  Okay then, i am looking for sushi to munched up but we ended up sipping and munching a Vietnamese foods :)
Orange lantern is located at harbourfront and always jam packed of diners. The foods is quite pricey but i think every meal can serve two people. Hehe. Of course I ordered pho ga nothing special, but I am surprised to taste their lumpia version.
Nice experience, they had a dim lights that makes it quite romantic to dine here. Hehe.
