GVMax with Dolby ATMOS Surround Sound Technology at GV VivoCity

ABBEY: I’m excited to watch the Eternals since I saw it’s trailer. New batch of heroes and characters. A group of ten is overwhelmingly specially in the first minutes of the movie; you need to catch up who is who. The story is somewhat a so-so and some of the acting is not that great.

Good thing we watched in Golden Village GVMax Dolby with Atmos. It somehow saved the movie with the superb sound and screen. The whispers and the intense actions can be heard crisply. But I bet it would have been better if the movie complemented the tech as well. Haha.

Let’s see in the future if Eternals will redeem themselves.

GVMax with Dolby ATMOS Surround Sound Technology at GV VivoCity

WILL: You keep on going for an average cinema or you already splurge on a movie with a la-z-boy seat, quilt and a meal? Well, have you tried this kind of IMAX equipped with Atmos?

We experienced the IMAX ‘s large screen plus the spatial, realistic sound of Dolby Atmos at GVMax! For what movie? Eternals!

Well, I know, this is one of the most boring movie you have watched this 2021 but I’ll tell you, that fight scenes a large screen plus this sound technology somewhat make a difference. Maybe, at least it won’t make you fell asleep. Haha!

Check out the GVMax located at VivoCity for your next movie escapades. Oh yeah! How’s the seat? Comfortable and the cinema is as usual freezing cold so don’t forget to wear your jackets!

Akimitsu (秋光) - VivoCity Branch

ABBEY: We celebrated Wilma’s natal day at Akimitsu (VivoCity); Japanese restaurant.

I had their signature pork katsudon. The set comes with a miso soup, chawanmushi and the katsudon with egg and sweet sauce.

The rice bowl taste good. We also asked for wasabi just to try the taste of pork slice to be eaten with it. It was good as well.

WILL: All the food vendors at grabfood and foodpanda were close for lunch and we didn’t manage to order the Japanese Food we are eyeing. Cravings are still there so after office, on my natal day, we dined at Akimitsu VivoCity Branch.

I ordered Soup Udon with Tonkatsu($13.90). Udon noodles is not as chewy as others, the soup gives the justice, haha. Tonkatsu + the sugary sauce and wasabi is always a hit for me.

Another thing I love in this restaurant is it’s aura. It has this peaceful feel. Good place for a date!

Artea SG - Tea and Pancake

ABBEY: Artea’s mango milkshake has the closest taste of Philippine mango. It has the right ratio of mango ang milkshake thus they are not overpowering each other. Not too sweet as well.

Unfortunately they ran out of their famous soufflé. Anyway we got the drink one for one.

Artea SG - Tea and Pancake
Passion Mango and Fresh Mango Milkshake

WILL: Totally recommended by my foodie ex-Boss, Ma’am Ivy and we really did make way just to taste it before the buy-one-take-one promotion ends.

Abbey tried the Fresh Mango Milkshake and I dared myself for a cup of Passion Mango. If! Yes if! If you are not fond of sour taste, do not waste your money in this drink, but if you are like me, who recharges itself on sour food, go for it! It’s sour taste is refreshing and feels like packed with Vitamin C. Mango tidbits gives a hint of sweetness.

I will definitely go back in here, a good alternative for any other cafes. 🤗

Caffebene Singapore ( A Popular Korean Café)

ABBEY: We visited CaffeBene at VivoCity for light snack. But come to their store, I noticed that they are serving an All Day Dining Menu which consist of pasta, bento, salad, wraps, and toasts.

I tried their Soy Chicken Bento for $10.90 an order. The chicken comes with a cup of brown rice and broccoli. The vegetable is crisp and not overcooked. The chicken went well with the rice. Not too sweet or salty. But I hope they put more serving on the plate :)

We haven't tried the bingsu as we know we're not able to finish it when we saw the cup.

Caffebene Singapore's Soy Chicken Bento

WILL: Abbey and I decided to go to iLight, but the problem is it is too early. So we decided to drop by at VivoCity for some snacks.

We supposedly going for hamburgers but I remembered that there is a Korean Cafe that we haven't tried. Just in front of FOX kids where Caffebene is located.

I am astonished with their price but still go though and reasoning that maybe..maybe there is blast of flavour that will happen later.

I ordered Japchae for $5.90. I am expecting that the serving is small.. but hey!!! Not that too small! The taste is bland. It seems that there is no pepper, sesame seed oil or even a salt was added. Gosh! All I can do is shake my head in disappointment. Luckily, the Caramel Goguma saved my day.

No second chance for this.

Irvins Salted Egg - Dangerously Addictive Salted Egg Snacks (Salted Egg Potato Chips / Salted Egg Fish Skin)

ABBEY: This is now a craze in Singapore: to get your hands on and munch on a pack of Irvin's Salted Egg potato chips and fish skin. We're able to get some at Vivo City (Harbourfront).

One person is limited only to buy 5 packs of small and 5 packs of big which cost S$8 and S$16 respectively. For me, nothing much to be desired on the chips. The potato chips tasted like the chips of Fridays Potato Skins and the fish skin chips taste like Pinoy's chicharon but without the fat.

It's good to have some alternative from our usual list of chips.

WILL: I am not that keen on fad things. I do not follow the hype, but when Kumareng Jennee requested to buy her an Irvins Salted Egg Potato Chips.. all I can do this search for it and prove to myself the craze it is creating.

Ok, how crazy the residents of Singapore over this salted egg chips? They do not accept reservation, they can only deliver the goodies after weeks when you ordered online and when you go to their one and only kiosk at VivoCity, you can only buy 5 large and 5 small. You know how much it is? 1 Large bag of 230 grams costs a whopping $16 and the small for 105 grams is $8. You can buy two huge Lays or Doritos or Ridges, ahmm, you get some cents for change too.

Moment of truth, opened a small bag, munch some and on my frustration, I cannot find the taste of the "salted egg". And for your info one of my favorite food to partner with hot piping rice is a hard boiled salted egg. Imagine, how disappointed and felt that I wasted an $8 for it. Tossed the potato chips, I went for the fish skin. To my surprise it is the same taste of "chicharon" (crispy pork skin) that my father used to buy in Pampanga. Ahmm, yes!, this is the healthier version of it. :)

Nope! I will not buy again those chips. Sorry fans of Irvins.

Japanese Gourmet Town at VivoCity

ABBEY: Once the adrenaline rush left my system after our business plan presentation, I became hungry. Our team celebrated at Japanese Gourmet Town in Vivo City.

I got Chicken Teriyaki Tenshin Han. Wilma and I thought that it was the rice meal which was wrapped it an omelette. But it turned out to be a scrambled egg dome which covers the rice. Anyways it is still delicious and I got my fix for Japanese gravy craving.

The meal also comes with a plate of gyoza and drink. All for $15.90.

Osaka Osha Gyoza
WILL: After Abbey and the team presented the business plan to a group of panelists, we celebrated that happy event at Japanese Gourmet Town at VivoCity.

I went for Chicken Cutlet Tenshin Han Set. It is comprising of Tenshin Han (Rice Topped with Egg), their well recommended Osaka Osha Gyoza, Egg Soup and a glass of soda. You can get get all of that for only $14.90. It is a huge serving. Haha!

So what's the verdict? The taste is awesome. Specially the gyoza! Oishi!!! I may suggest that they should have an unlimited gyoza promotion. :)

'Till next time Japanese Gourmet Town!

Menya Musashi at VivoCity

ABBEY: We decided to dine at Menya Musashi after our stroll at Vivo City (#01-104).

I got their Chicken Cutlet Toji Rice Set; chef recommended. It comes with a bowl of rice, fried chicken cutlet soaked in beaten egg yolks, miso soup, and chawanmushi.
Japanese rice is delicious. It goes well with the chicken cutlet and the taste is not that salty. I washed them all down with the miso soup. Then for the finale, I ate the egg custard which was topped with mushroom and pork bits.

The meal costs 16SGD.

WILL: Abbey is so overwhelmed with his new shoes and on that, he treated me a dinner at Menya Musahi at VivoCity. The store is not that big but have a welcoming ambias. We are lucky that time that there is no long queue going on when we arrived the place.

We were ushered to our seats, ordered via iPad app and they immediately served us their complimentary hot tea. Have you experience that ramen splashes back to your soup? To avoid any clothing stains, you can ask for paper bibs. :)

I got a thin ramen for my spicy soup set. I am amazed on how flavourful the ramen specially their noodles. Oishi! One bowl is too much for my tummy size, and of course husband is there to rescue me (we hate wasting food). He to agreed how delicious it is.

Please visit them on any of their branches.

Paik's Bibim (Bibimbap) - VivoCity Singapore

ABBEY: We went to Paiik's Bibim in Vivo City to have dinner. It is a little shop that serves Korean dish bibimbap.

I got their recommended item: Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap for 8.50SGD. It came in a big bowl and on the wall a sign shows how to eat it; very simple, just mix it all and enjoy it. It was sweet and delicious. From time to time I'm putting chili paste to make it hot and spicy.

They only accept cash and NETS.

WILL: For almost 5 years of marriage we do not forget to unwind and have a dinner date. We frequently explore on food. Why not? Singapore has lot to offer.

That night we went for Korean cuisine. Paiik's bibimbap is a fast food themed dining site. I went for Teriyaki Chicken Bibimbap ($8.50). It is flavourful. Any person that do not want spicy but like to try Korean's Bibimbap, this is the right place for them.

LeNu Taiwanese Beef Noodle Bar (Vivocity)

ABBEY: We're hungry and most of the restaurant in Vivo City is jam-packed. The shortest queue that we saw is at Lenu (Taiwan Beef Noodle Shop); maybe 5-7 people ahead of us. We were given seats at the bar after a couple of minutes.

I got their Chef-recommended item: Braised Beef Brisket noodle. I don't know if we ordered it right or the chef was confused which is which so I got the same soup flavor but different type of noodles. Instead of broad noodles I had rice noodles in my bowl. No more time to argue on sending it back, I'm hungry. For 10.90, it was reasonable. The serving came huge, hot and freshly served. It was flavorful and the beef is tender.

WILL: Jhen is craving for a good noodles since her first day in here in Singapore. So we went for LeNu for dinner right after the seminar.

There is queue of course but we got our table in an instant because we are willing to sit at the bar. :)

I ordered their spicy version of soup. The soup is tasty but not that spicy! The noodles are perfectly firm. The serving is greatly big. Recommendable. Value of money! Now I am very intrigued on Taiwan's cuisine. :) Maybe next time, we will visit that country. :)

Charcoal Thai - Mookata Steamboat Dinner Buffet (VivoCity Branch)

ABBEY: We had a visitor and we wanted to spend quality time over dinner. Ate Olga is one of Wilma's "caretake/ate" on her childhood. We dined at Charcoal Thai and ordered a Mookata BBQ for 11SGD. We got confused as we thought that our order is for a buffet. Anyways, a top up of 10sgd and we're good to go; unlimited food.

The grill is having a mini "trench" where you can create a mini steamboat. Just be cautious of the soup level. We were given a plate of marinated chicken, pork and fat. They also have rojak, fried chicken, spring rolls and chips.

I really love their fried rice. It has a lot of eggs and very tasty. Their light soy sauce, vinegar with minced onion and garlic really went well with the barbecue and fried chicken; add to it slices of cucumber. We washed down the food with a pitcher of iced-lemon tea.

From 6pm to 8:30pm, non-stop talking and eating.

WILL: One of the closest neighbor when I was child flew in Singapore. Abbey and I were too excited to meet her but the new working schedule of hubby blocked an "immediate meet-up" idea. Anyways, its better to be late than never and we scheduled a dinner date with Ate Olga at Charcoal Thai VivoCity Branch.

This is something new for me. A Thailand version of bbq/steamboat. We top-up $10 each person to avail the full buffet menu.

They have the cracklings, curried chicken, the ever yummy fried-rice and variety of fresh meats like chicken, beef, pork, fish, and seafood for us to cook on our desire. Vegetables are also present. Their chilies and marinated chicken deserves a praise, those two are very suitable to my liking.

Of course, while eating a dinner a non-stop catching up was done. Childhood memory flashing back...rushing back.

iMob really rocking the world of vouchers here in Singapore! Good job iMob! Thanks for a huge discount on this meal.

Charcoal Thai we will definitely comeback not because of food alone but also to your kind and all smile waitresses.

Bornga (Original Korean Taste) at VivoCity

ABBEY: We have dined in at Bornga Korean restaurant at Vivo City for lunch after a book hunt at Logos Hope. Feeling that I won and got my prized books, I ordered Chadol Duenjang Jigae. It will be prepared to you by their chef at your table. Unfortunately, I said yes when he asked me if chilli should be added. I'm not that a fan of chilli as my tongue gets numb and I'm not able to taste the food. The chandol taste sour and spicy; maybe its because of the kimchi.

We were also given small bowls of side dishes like soy sprouts and anchovies. It was a new experience to have dined in a Korean restaurant. Next time I'll try their bulgogi.

WILL: After our hunt for discounted price books of Left Behind Series at Logos Hope, we decided to splurge on our lunch. It was the 2nd day for 2014 Chinese New Year holiday and we understand that almost all of restaurants will be packed by hungry people. We set our foot at Bornga. Well, I have a craving for Korean cuisine for that day and Bornga will be perfect.

I asked for Dolsot Bibimbap. They poured in a complimentary bottmless hot tea and the side dishes starts settling on our table. I was so shocked that was really a lot! I jokingly told to the server that the side dish can fill my tummy and hope that I just ordered a steamed rice, haha.

Dolsot bibimbap is very good specially partnered with kimchi. Oh, I love kimchi a lot.

This is a very recommended place to dine. The place is very relaxing and the attendants are very accommodating.

Thanks a lot Bornga Team, you made our holiday so great!

(Washokodokoro) Waraku Japanese Casual Dining Singapore VivoCity

ABBEY: We won an invite for the opening of Waraku Japanese restaurant in Vivo City. It was located on the rooftop park of the mall. Outside the restaurant is a photobooth where you can pose with a Samurai.

We were given a table for two and the staff told us as part of the store opening a meal including a drink will be served for free. The meal includes tempura, udon, sushi, and potato salad. The sauce brings more flavor on the tempura.

I really like the sushi; I hoped that they will serving more of those.

WILL: Fan of Japanese Cuisine? Add up Waraku Japanese Restaurant on your list. Waraku is one of the famous and oldest restaurant from its at East Coast Park.

Its the opening at their VivoCity branch when we first stepped our feet in one of their restaurant. The place portrayed a very cozy feeling. Its seats, tables, even plates and chopsticks well complimented to each other. Relaxing is the great word to describe it.

They offered us drinks and I asked for cranberry juice after a while the food was served. The tray consists of udon, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and volcano maki. The most memorable was the noodles packed with flavors and very chewy, its seems like a gnocchi texture.

Thanks Waraku for this free dinner and free photo shot with Sushi Ronin.

Guys please visit their page here for more details.

Walt Disney Studios Singapore: Oz The Great and Powerful

ABBEY: Wilma always wanted to see a film about Wizard of Oz. From early movies created up to the famous broadway show Wicked, she saw them all.

She asked me if we can watch Oz: Great and Powerful in the big screen. She lost hope in winning a pair of tickets on Nuffnang and Facebook contests. I gladly said yes.

As in the title, it shows the story about the wizard. Oz was portrayed by James Franco. He is a magician in a circus and people really believe that he has powers. So a girl who has a disability and her family offered him money and ask him to make the girl walk. It was in the middle of his act. As he couldn't do it, the people called him a con-man and demanded to refund their payment. Oz also has the habit on hitting on all the girls including the woman of a circus weightlifter. With everyone trying to get a piece of him, he rode a hot air balloon to leave the place. Little did he know that the balloon is being sucked towards a tornado. This eventually became the gate to the land of Oz.

He was amazed by the tall peaks, rushing waters of the falls, colorful trees and weird creatures. (Mila Kunis) saw Oz when he fell down from the sky. She told Oz that he is the wizard who will set free the people as on the prophecy. On their way to Emerald City, they met monkey with wings, ; it would be Oz's sidekick. Expect a lot of laugh from him.

Mila introduced Oz to her sister (Rachel Weisz). Asked Oz that if he killed the "evil" witch Glinda (Michelle Williams) he can get all the riches of the treasury. The tables turned upside down when Oz knew the truth. And they prepared a battle between good and evil. You will be surprised how Oz became great and had the respect of the people of Oz (Thinkers, Quadlings, and Munchkins). Its a good movie; great for children.

WILL: Big fan of Wizards of Oz?, here! here!
We are members of Nuffnang Singapore, and they alerted us to blog about this movie and win for ourselves a pair of movie passes. I waited... waited until 5pm last 7th of March but no email for Abbey about winnings, since I am great great fan, I can't wait for another day to watch the film. So we decided to go to JCube and bought a pair of tickets.
My smile is from ear to ear when I finally took a look on the passes. I watched intensely and laugh so hard on every moves of the very adorable Oz. I am so happy to be the of people in Singapore to see the film on its first day of showing. A very recommendable movie for everyone.
On our way home, as I check mails, I saw the Nuffnang congratulatory mail. Haha. We decided to see it again. Sorry friends for being so selfish. I just really love this movie. One monday we hit VivoCity mall to watch it for the second time at Golden Village. ;)

CZ12

ABBEY: The teaser got us. It's a Jackie Chan-movie. As expected the movie is action-packed and funny as well with his antics. It was a story of national treasures that needs to be given back to its rightful owners. But with greed, people are selling them for huge profits. Being promised with a good pay and great bonus, Jackie went for the searh of all Zodiac heads including the Dragon head. People with different interests on the artifacts were also in pursuit making it harder for Jackie to get and protect the heads. He also showed that at his age he can still do his well-coordinated stunts; like in the sofa, with his body skates, and on the photography room. Jackie still has it. Take note of the French gal who likes purple :)
Costa Coffee

WILL: When we saw the trailer of this movie, Abbey immediately asked me if we can used his cinema voucher to see this film, I nodded. 23rd of December afternoon, we went to VivoCity and hurriedly went to the the Golden Village counter to exchange the voucher to movie ticket.
Well, I like Jackie Chan and his antics since I am a child, so even this film has a very simple layout of story, I appreciated it much. Story 5/10, Stunts 10/10.
      Nice work Sir Jackie.

Party World KTV (家樂迪)

ABBEY: Filipinos love to sing; be it a belting or sometimes a LITTLE out of tune. Give our kababayan a mic and entertainment has begun. We got a 28-dollar voucher for 2 hours of videoke at Party World KTV. This includes 4 drinks and bowl of munchies. The place got party lights, comfy couch and sound proof wall for those "singers".

As expected I was the first to sing. The songs I selected tell me how old I am. BSB, Rey Valera, Rick Price, Michael Jackson and other artist. But I must admit that those songs were good. VA and I took turns with the usual duet from Wilma. We wrapped up by singing Sean Kingston's Beautiful Girl. It was a fun time.

WILL: Abbey just blurted out "Let's go for karaoke!", and to grant that request. I go back to the emails of all discount companies sent to me. I compared the perks and the price then we finally decided to buy the Groupon voucher. For only $28, we can get 2 hours of singing for 4 pax and a complimentary drink for each and 2 bowls of chips. We booked on a Sunday 6pm. So sad that Chat's duty to hospital do not gave her an opportunity to sing with us.
On our way in to Party World KRV at their VivoCity branch, the two boys were excited, Abbey because he really miss to sing and VA for his newly acquired Rado wristwatch (happy for you Vince).
Then the singing marathon began. We scanned the song list per artist then Abbey finally started to vibrate his singing voice. It was like we go back from our HS time. His song choices is really a 199-!
We enjoyed the two hours of singing (me as a back-up singer), sipping of cold drinks (sorry tonsils) and the chips is quite tasty too.
This is a really a memory to treasure. ;)
