The Secret Patio's Mad Hatter's Tea Party

ABBEY: An “Have I gone Mad”-themed pop-up was setup at The Secret Patio @ Duxton. It was their take at Alice in Wonderland. For SGD 39.9 per person (minimum of 2) you’ll be able to reserve a table. You will be greeted by the smell of croissants and you can see playing cards, flowers, butterflies, colorful cups and checkerboard-covered tables in mats; just like in the Madhatter’s tea party. We got savoury croissants (triple cheese with chicken ham and mushroom) as well the sweet ones (almond and hazelnut cruffin). Along with that we got tea and cold dark chocolate drinks. I thought all the food were included in the reservation payment but it is not. The drinks have to be paid separately.

WILL: I am fond of Alice in Wonderland. Yep! It is one of the fantasy to experience the Mad Hatter’s Tea Time. I thought I may tick that off on my list when Abbey and I visited The Secret Patio, well it wasn’t.

The area was filled by white and red flowers to make it feels like you are in a garden (of course), a pallet covered with black and white to be our table, and butterflies. There’s a feeling of something missing in food presentation. Maybe the teapot or a cake stand. Not sure but there’s a lack of vibe in the place.

Luckily, I have enjoyed the taste of their pastry specialy the mushroom croissant. I enjoyed the Nymph of the Nile tea too. Maybe I expected too much when my husband paid for $39.90 each (drinks not included). As what some says, charge it to experience. Hehe.

Two Men Bagel House

ABBEY: Wilma is a fan of bread. And she was delighted when we dine at Two Men Bagel House (01-12 Icon Village Altez at Enggor Street). They have different flavours of bagels like garlic, rye, multi-grain, black and white sesame and they also have the original or plain one.

You can ask to put cream cheese, jellies and peanut butter. There are a lot of options to choose from. And then they have bagelwiches. Yup, bagel made into sandwiches. I got their bagelwich of the month: the Yoe. It has roasted lamb slices, coconut red curry, onions and tomatoes. The toasted bagel is crunchy and flavorful. It will be messy but worth it. My meal costs $14.00 and it came with a cup of coffee. Only NETS and cash are accepted.

WILL: Abbey is ecstatic that he will be presenting to me the newly repaired engagement ring. We agreed to meet at Two Men Bagel House, few steps away from my office.

I ordered Porkey at the counter. It was consisted of tomatoes, bratwurst and melted cheese, garlic aioli and egg (S$8.90). Once we are settled and while waiting Abbey threw a second engagement. Haha. The ring is exquisite (see our  separate blog here). Food arrived and we dug in. What's the taste? Not your ordinary "burger". Bagel is firm and the taste of bratwurst complements well with other ingredients.

Oooh! The guy behind the cashier (I think he is the owner) is handsome and friendly. Haha!

Abbey always proposes to me with the food that I love. First at pizza now at bagel shop. Now I am thinking where will be the next? ;)

Two Men Bagel House are very recommendable. And it is a must try at Tanjong Pagar area. You will fall in love with their food.

Chicken Up - Korean / Chicken Restaurant

ABBEY: First things first, this restaurant is only open after office hours; so no breakfast or lunch being served. We learned this the hard way. Not checking their operating hours, we headed to have lunch after our physical exam. Lo and behold, they're close.

Second, be there early else you have to queue. No reservations. Chicken Up is located at 48 Tanjong Pagar Road and they are serving Korean cuisine. As the name itself, they focus on poultry. They have their chicken buffet for only S$25.

We tried fried Soya chicken wings. This is very flavorful, delicious and finger-lickin' good. I enjoyed eating this with a cup of hot white rice. We also tried the normal fried chicken and hot ones. They look exactly the same. But once you take bite, then you'll be looking for water if you pick the spicy piece. This is also the case with their chicken stew.

The glass noodles item is recommended. It is like Pinoy sotanghon but with thicker soy sauce-based sauce and more mushrooms. Each main item would start at less than 15sgd only. I also recommend their watrmelon juice.

WILL: We always wanted to dine at Chicken Up but we didn't get a good chance. I am so glad that Ford's farewell party was held there.

They do not accept reservations but luckily Mondays are my husband's off. I begged him to queue for us. We arrived minutes before the clock strikes 6pm.

We ordered for the flavors of soya, spicy up, yangnyum and andong chicken stew. Yangnyum stands out. Its sauce makes a difference; sweet yet have some spike of spiciness. Do not get deceived of Spicy Up, it looks the natural fried chicken but it will surely kick your butt. Haha! We almost forgot to taste the Japchae. The noodles are chewy. Very Korean.

Instead of ordering soda, we got the Chicken Up's famous Watermelon Soju (a watermelon juice mixed with popular distilled drink of Korea). Sweet and have some hint of alcohol. Do not drink too much. Ok?

The prices of this chicken is really expensive. If you want to get the value of your money go for chicken buffet $25 but only for 2 hours. :)

See you next time Chicken Up.
