Rong Hua Bak Kut Teh

ABBEY: After more than 13 km of walk and almost all the shops are close we found our dinner served at Rong Hua Bak Kut Teh. I have a bowl of lean meat. The soup is peppery and hot which is perfect for my rice and youtiao.

My energy got replenished after three bowls of the soup. I ate the meat later. I just enjoyed the rich pork broth.

WILL: After a long walk from Punggol Waterway to Rower’s Bay, Abbey, Chat and I rewarded ourselves with a steaming hot bak kut teh (pork soup) of RongHua at WaterwayPoint.

We were surprised that this is better than the well-known bak kut tehs! What do I mean better? The soup is more tasty, the pepper really kicked-in, and the pork chunks are tender and  meatier.

RongHua Bak Kut Teh is definitely recommendable.

Genki Sushi at Waterway Point

ABBEY: This Japanese restaurant is always having a long queue. We got curious and we dined in there for our anniversary dinner. You can order the sushi of your choice by scanning a QR code on your receipt and then the magic happens.

Your one-bite delight will be delivered to you by a train; a toy train. It was fun and unconventional. The wasabi has a nice kick. Bit of advice though, order early as the train can come a little longer.

The price is more expensive compared to other restaurant.

WILL: I planned to have a takeaway food for us to celebrate our 8th year anniversary but my husband except for flower surprise, he also told me that he wants to have a date at Genki Sushi. Well, as always, I said yes to his invitation.

The gimmick is you order using your own phone via QR provided and your food will be delivered by a magnetic train. Cool, isnt? Hehe.

So on their food: The wasabe have a hair pulling power.. and I like it. Their sushi is just the same as others. Salmon Skin Handroll has this crunch and tummy fulfilling and it is only $2.30! A good deal!

Try Genki Sushi! Now! Haha! Oh, I forgot. There’s always a long queue.

Mr Coconut - Coconut Shake

ABBEY: Wilma was really excited when she saw the sign that Mr. Coconut will open a shop near us.

We tried their signature drink: Coconut shake. It was creamy and you can bite the bits and pieces of the coconut meat. Perfect amount of ice, coconut and sugar.

Mr Coconut - Coconut Shake
Waterway Point Branch

WILL: The huge buzz now is the different variances of milk tea that rose up in every corner of Singapore. Now, there is a contender to quench the sizzling heat here, the Coconut Shake

There is one branch newly opened at Waterway Point. Of course, Abbey and I tried it. The taste? Good! As in good that you will taste the real coconut, it was not overpowered by milk, sugar or ice. Texture is creamy and maybe you will enjoy chewing the tidbits of coconut meat.

Thumbs up Mr Coconut!

DaeSsiksin Korean BBQ Buffet @ Waterway Point

ABBEY: Wilma dated me to Daessiksin (Waterway Point branch) for first blood on her job. It is a Korean BBQ buffet and hotpot. But we just sticked to the grill. And when I say sticked to the grill, we opted to indulge in the BBQ part instead of the ready made items. The kimchi rice is starting to develop crust at the bottom, the fried chicken wing is somehow cold as well as the sweet and sour chicken and the one wrapped in seaweed. It seems they are there for a long time :) The bacon is just too salty.

I enjoyed beef bulgogi, rib-eye, and pork belly. They are easy to chew, tender, and soft. Free flow of soft drinks, coffee, tea, and ice cream the whole 90 minutes of your buffet.

DaeSsiksin Korean BBQ Buffet

WILL: Abbey requested to have a korean bbq buffet and to celebrate my first month on my new job, I treated my beloved husband for a dinner. We will not combat the crowd in Orchard because here in Punggol, we have DaeSsikin Korean Bbq Buffet. Saving time and money on traveling. Woooot!!

DaeSsikin offers steamboat and bbq, of course we chose the latter. Do not be weary, there’s only few choices but the main substances are there. Please choose the spicy pork! Wrap it with romaine lettuce, woo!, a hit! Filled my tummy with “kugi” that time. Their drinks are free flow too.

They are not accepting reservation, so be early and grab a seat!

PlayMade by 丸作 at Waterway Point - Yakult Taiwan Green Tea

ABBEY: Another bubble tea shop opened in Waterway Point. But the twist is they are putting Yakult on their selected drinks. For SGD 4.4, we tried a medium-sized Yakult Taiwan Green Tea with burnt caramel pearls.

It taste citrusy and semi sweet. I like the pearls as they are soft and chewy but gives a little bitter aftertaste.

PlayMade by 丸作 at Waterway Point - Yakult Taiwan Green Tea

WILL: Another player on the field of milk tea! PlayMade! They opened a branch in Singapore here at Waterway Punggol. So what’s the difference with others?

Yakult! The amazing feeling of healthiness in your green tea. Is that it? No! Make this cup a bit sinful by adding a burnt caramel pearl. Hehe!

Their Yakult Taiwan Green Tea is totally recommended! Take a cup for a less than S$4.

Stärker Concept Punggol Restaurant

ABBEY: We happened to pass by this restaurant when we jog and wonder when we will dine in there. It was on New Year’s Eve. I felt the festive spirit upon going in. A live band plays their repertoire, kids playing “water” pong, and each guest is with their loved ones.

I had Smoky BBQ Pork ribs. It was indicated in the menu that it was a half slab but it look like a whole one when served and it also came with fries and greens. The ribs are peeling off the meat and the meat is tender. I like it to dip in the truffle mayo sauce. I also have some of pork sausage which taste really good.

Oh, did I mention that 20SGD was taken out of our bill? That’s how Starker celebrate the holidays.

WILL: We maximise the time left on 2018 and we decided not to cook and just go out and celebrate the New Year’s eve at Starker.

It will be a year of the pig and we indulged in pork varieties in Starker Punggol. Haha! Abbey ordered (B01) My Favourites and I attended my pork sausage cravings!

It is not the ordinary sausage from your grocery stores. The meat and fat was perfectly packed. The pepper is not overpowering and the Truffle Mayonnaise dip make it more special. One is enough to fill my appetite.

Figured out that Starker Punggol have a S$20 promotion, we availed it. Do not fret, they have new promotions now and then.

Punggol/Sengkang residents, this is a hidden gem at WaterwayPoint! Live band, drinks and be merry!

Say Chiizu | Hokkaido Cheese Toast

ABBEY: Say ‘chiizu’ :)

Hokkaido Cheese Toast offers these toasts at SGD 3.80 a piece. They recently opened their branch at Waterway Point and there we go.

The toast is not that much big but filled with stretchy and chewy cheese. Be sure to eat it as soon as possible for maximum stretch. Also who wants a cold toast?

WILL: I saw Abbey's friend, Nitin, hit a like button to a post that shows a stretch of cheese! Abbey blurted out that it is supposedly his surprise for me for the next day. Ha! Blame Nitin!

For brunch, we went to Waterway Point and bought the 'surprise' original toast.

Astonished, this taste like mozzarella! Man! I can eat three of those in one sitting. It is quite pricey though.

Guschlbauer Singapore | Austrian Bakery

ABBEY: Yey, another pastry shop at Waterway Point. They are giving away devil cheese buns on their opening day.

A cheese bun costs SGD5.80 and we tried the original as well as the chocoloate. I prefer the former. It taste milky; like the powder type. I remember the days scooping a spoonful of milk and enjoy the milk powder.

We also bought kissling for SGD8.80. Now that is I think expensive; not that buttery nor flaky. It will be left in the dust by Tiong Bahru Bakery’s.

WILL: As usual Facebook is one of the culprit. Haha! I saw a post that they will be having a giveaway for for three days. Sad thing is that we do not have the time to queue.

Solution? Abbey bought it when we have the time. Sad. Not free!

The outer layer is quite hard/crisp but the inside is soft. Your brain will be eluded to eat more. The powdery substance that tapped over the side of buns brings back the taste of 'klim' in Philippines. I like the original than the Cheese Bun Tiramisu.

Kissling? No.. no.. no..

The Coffee House - Singaporean Restaurant at Punggol Waterway Point

ABBEY: We got a date with Shane, our friend and highschool classmate. Since she’s new at SG, we want her to taste local cuisine. We went to The Coffee House at Waterway Point.

I got the creamy laksa (SGD7.50) topped with tofu, oyster,  prawn, fish cakes and egg. Each scoop is delicious. We recommended Nasi Lemak for Shane. This comes with sambal prawn and chicken satay.

And as to their name coffee and tea will be available :)

WILL: Work, work, work! That is Shane! Yep! Meet Shane! Oops! No photo of her. Haha. Next time, after her bruises in her face subsides, we will take one shot of her. Why she have bruises? Long story...

Because Shane is busy when we go to Sentosa, we scheduled another date to dine and to relay to her the miracle in our life. In many food outlets you can find in Waterway Punggol, we chose The Coffee House. It serves local dishes.

I ordered Bak Kut Teh Set for $12.90. I ended up swapping my set with Abbey's Laksa ($7.50). The pork meat have too much blood and not that tender. The laksa is ok. I enjoyed the prawns in it.

If you are longing for local cuisine and yet you want some private place for you and your family, The Coffee House is there for you. Worry not, they don't charge service fee.

Pizza Hut Singapore - Wow! Take-Away Promotion

ABBEY: We recently “miss” the oily/greasy pan pizza of Pizza Hut. So we headed to their branch at WaterwayPoint (Punggol) and was surprised that they have takeaway promo.

They are offering personal, regular and large pizzas for 5, 10, and 15SGD respectively and you can choose from 19 flavors (2SGD top up for specialty pizza). We had a large size Wild About Mushrooms.

It was cheesy, aromatic and full of flavor. We even came back for a second one, but this time paid 6SGD more to load our crust with more cheese.

Thanks Pizza Hut.

Pizza Hut Singapore - Wow! Take-Away Promotion

WILL: Abbey reminded me that it seems that we haven’t eaten pizza for months. And yes he is drooling to taste some dough and toppings. Luckily, Pizza Hut is running a promotion for take-aways.

After our ritual running one weekday, we dropped by at Pizza Hut's WaterwayPoint branch.

We went for a flavour that is new to our eyes, Wild About Mushrooms. Abbey added $2 on top of $15 for a large size pizza for 'specialty' flavour.

Bite after bite, Pizza Hut Singapore proved to me that I miss the taste of their 'oily' and crunchy dough and made me delighted to taste a new white sauce put together with mushroom (taste like secret sauce of Domino's). It is a perfect combination.

Indeed, that pizza made us feel good and the craving was satisfied.

Go and visit the nearest Pizza Hut and get your $5, $10 or $15 Whole Pizza. Yep! No hidden charges!

Miam Miam Singapore (Waterway Point)

ABBEY: We got a chance to spend sometime with Ate Che, a returning OFW and co-founder of Buttons Up Mushroom, before going back to Philippines for good. We met at Miam-Mia@Waterway Point.

I got Shogayaki Pork Miam Donburi (SGD 15.90). It is rice with pork fillet topped with tofu, baby radish and cucumber. I think it is pricey for a meduim-sized serving. But the taste is delicious and have lots of flavor.

The restaurant is fusion of French and Japanese. They also have soufflés, spaghetti, parfaits, pancakes, coffee and tea.

WILL: To celebrate the next chapter of Ate Che's (one of the founder of ButtonsUp Mushroom Crisp) life, we met her at Miam Miam - Punggol Waterway Point Mall.

That was Saturday and of course, the diner was all-packed. I ordered Riz Noir Squid Ink Rice. Wow! That was new for me. It is tasty and the squid meat was cooked to its perfection. Too delighted, I don't care about the black ink on my lips and on my teeth. I keep on eating and talking. Haha!

That good food made even better because of the time spent with a friend. Goodluck to your endeavors Ate Che!

Social Square by MOF (Waterway Point)

ABBEY: From time to time, we dine outside usually after our weekly grocery.

We went to Social Square @ Waterway Point. It is one of the brands of MOF (Ministry of Food). I got Grilled Chicken Pesto (S$15.00). The chicken is moist and juicy. And the pasta yummy and got flavorful taste of pesto. Wow.

WILL:
I am more of an "udon" person than a ramen and on that week I am craving for it but CitlyLink's Mall is seriously far from our flat, so we decided to hunt an udon at Waterway Point at Punggol and we found Social Square.

No hesitation and second thought, I went for Plain Udon + Kakiage Tempura ($14.80). I dug in as the attendant placed my meal in front of me. The udon is firm as usual, the kakiage is crisp and not faltering in that texture. But the soup is not as tasty as I am expecting. *Sad Face*

Anyways, I am there to have a bite of udon. Will I come back? Hmm, maybe not.

BurgerUp (We Are Made Different) - Waterway Point Punggol Branch

ABBEY: I found this promotion when I was looking what to eat for our movie date. It comes with a chicken burger, fries and a drink. You need to place your order at the kiosk, get your order receipt and then queue at the cashier for payment. They only accept cash and NETS (if bill more than 10SGD). They have a post on the wall that the order will take 10-15 mins. Just wait for your number and you're up.

I was surprised that even I only started to eat the burger 30 minutes after ordering, the chicken is still crispy. It was packed in a foil wrap. Not your ordinary burger huh.

I hope they can accept credit card payments and it should be done in the kiosk itself so the number of queuing will be lessened.

BurgerUp (Waterway Point Punggol Branch) - Ordering Kiosk
BurgerUp' Crispy Chicken Burger Meal

BurgerUp (Waterway Point Punggol Branch) Promotions

WILL: I am a bit skeptical to buy their $3.80 Chicken Burger Meal. Why? They are located just beside McDonald's at Waterway Point, so instead of exploring new brand, I rather went for the "safe" taste. But when Abbey bought a set of BurgerUp's Chicken Value Meal, I can't get enough of its taste.

For promotion price $3.80 you will get a Crispy Chicken Burger, Fries and a small soda. The difference from other fastfood chains? The price! Haha! And of course the incredible crispiness of the chicken inside the bun. It has a distinctive flavor on the rest of food stalls that offers the same. It is a fantastic taste.

If you are on a hunt for affordable burger, queue up! Yes! There is always a queue at BurgerUp. See you again on Sunday, BurgerUp!

Inferno Singapore (2016 Film) - Dan Brown

ABBEY: This is the third installation of Robert Langdon's story; the main character of the novels by Dan Brown.

It started in the hospital where Robert was being treated. He is having trouble remembering what transpired the past 48 hours and having visions and weird dreams. He doesn't even remember the word for coffee :) But just as puzzle-solver he is and with his skills regarding the arts, he is able to decipher it and save the world. There maybe wrong guesses and interpretation of information but all fell into places before the inferno strikes.

Like the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, this movie made me appreciate the arts more and the secret passageways on museums :)

Shaw Theatres Singapore Inferno Movie Booking Confirmation

WILL: The first book I read that was written by Dan Brown is the Deception Point. Oh! I have no intention to put it down unless my eyes screaming at me so I can put them to slumber. Haha. Then, Abbey surprised me of the boom Inferno. :) And for the second time, I watch a movie that I have read. Ha!

It just validated by imagination while reading Inferno. But I cannot help myself to smile at myself because I know what will happen next. Crazy right?

Anyways, I enjoyed the movie!

Encik Tan @ Waterway Point Punggol

ABBEY: One time after buying grocery items from Fairprice (Waterway Point), we passed buy Encik Tan and saw long queue. This is the same scenario even by the day we tried to order.

We brought home chicken leg/cutlet curry rice. Those are their special items. The gravy is spicy, creamy, and delicious. It really went well with the rice and fried chicken. However it seems that the serving for dine in is more than the take-away. Meaning, we have to come back there :)

They also serve noodles, hot and cold drinks.

WILL: Why there is always a long queue? I glanced at the menu and surprisingly the value is reasonable. Then I told Abbey to try the food in there.

One night, when we are running out of time for us to cook, I pulled Abbey to this restaurant and instructed him to queue while I am giving an eye on our grocery carts. Few minutes later, he is on the cashier ordering and paying our meal, it is for tapao.

We were shocked to see that the rice is so less than to meals that was eaten at the restaurant. But when we tasted the curry sauce! OMG! Now I know why there is a lot people in line just to eat this food. The curry is spicy, thick. :) Chicken is still crunchy! My tastebuds is dancing because of the flavours. :)

Recommendable!!!
